After a five year fight through the courts and close to $700,000 in legal fees, I was convinced there must be a better way. I even wrote a book about my experience titled Lost in the System, in which I charted this long, agonizing journey with a view to helping others avoid the pitfalls of a deeply flawed family law system. Before I undertook to write this book, I went to a defamation lawyer to ensure that I was protected from any future litigation. I was informed that as long as my book was factual, I could name the parties involved and the numerous judges that I appeared before. When I took the finished product back to the defamation lawyer for her approval to publish the book, I was shocked when she informed me I would likely be sued because I named names. Needless to say, I reminded her of the guidance she gave to me the year prior.

Another big legal fight? I decided I’d spent enough of my life in a courtroom, so I held off publishing the book. But I want to pass on what I have learned, to help you make better decisions about your divorce, and hopefully save you significant amounts of time, money, aggravation and stress.

After appearing in front of 10 different judges, spending 19 days in court spread out over eight months and seven full days on the stand, I remain convinced that family law is about making good people look bad and criminal law is about making bad people look good. Once you are caught up in the system, it’s so hard to get out. The goal of Divorce Simplified is to provide you with the tools and knowledge you need to complete a speedy and cost-effective divorce, and to avoid becoming “lost in the system.”
