My practice is exclusively in the area of family law with a focus on empowering people as they navigate the unique stresses (and opportunities) that accompany the significant life transitions of separation and divorce. Previous to working as a family lawyer and mediator, I worked with families and students as a UBC chaplain and pastor. This experience, along with previous training in courses such as marriage and family counselling, has taught me to be attune to the emotional aspects of separation and divorce, as well as the legal ones. While not a therapist, I work with clients holistically, listening to their stories and connecting them with professional and community resources when needed..
Having spent one semester assisting Provincial Court judges during law school and a full year working as a Judicial Law Clerk for six judges of the BC Supreme Court downtown, I received valuable insight into the court process, learning at the feet of judges. This provides me with a unique perspective on the law, as well as incentive to encourage clients to negotiate their own agreements outside of the court system. I am deeply committed to the collaborative process and mediation as two tremendous resources for couples and families to avoid the significant financial and emotional cost of litigation.
I recently moved out to the Cultus Lake area to enjoy the great outdoors with my husband and our dogs. We love providing a refuge from the busyness of the city to our three adult kids, as well as to family and friends. I look forward to growing my collaborative practice in the Fraser Valley and continue to assist clients from across BC virtually.
